The Logan County Regional Planning Commission (LCRPC) acts as an advisory body that is responsible for directing the short and long range growth of the county.
The Planning Commission is made up of nine community members charged with acting in the public interest but serve at the pleasure of the County Board. Commission members are nominated and approved by the County Board to serve terms of three years. In addition, five elected or appointed ex-officio members have a seat coterminous with their term in office (Mayors, Highway Commissioner, Board Chair)
The Executive Director of the LCRPC is assigned the duties of carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities of the Commission. Duties could include setting up monthly meetings, setting agendas, scheduling speakers and guests, coordinating between the Commission and other government/civilian entities, and interacting with the public on behalf of the Commission.
The LCRPC acts as an advisory board to the County Zoning Office and the County Board. The mission of the LCRPC is to ensure that land use decisions are consistent with policies of the County as well as in the public interest.
Regular meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month. The public is encouraged to attend.
Mission
The mission of the Logan County Regional Planning Commission is to promote and support land use planning to the greatest economic benefit and highest quality of life for residents of the County. The following principles have been adopted in support of the mission:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for Logan County
- Support the efforts of all municipalities in Logan County to develop their own comprehensive plans.
- Provide a public forum for the exchange of ideas regarding land use planning.
- Seek out opportunities to cooperate with neighboring counties to achieve the mission.
- Make recommendations to the Logan County Board regarding proposed zoning changes or zoning ordinance changes.
- Assist the Logan County Board, Logan County Municipalities, Logan County Chamber of Commerce, Private Enterprises, or Citizen, in Economic Development Opportunities.
- Encourage and support the development of a Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
- Administer the Logan County Enterprise Zone.
- Support the development of the county-wide Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Seek out any State or Federal Government program assistance or grants that may be available to support the mission.
- Serve as a community resource for information on planning and development.
- Promote greater public awareness of the commission and the importance of land use planning.
